Beyond Curb Appeal: Evaluating Homes That Support Your Wellbeing

Most buyers walk through a home and notice the countertops, the paint colors, whether the master bedroom feels big enough. And those things matter-but if you're someone who values wellness and intentional living, there's something deeper to pay attention to:

Does this home make daily life easier-or harder?

Once you're clear on the lifestyle you're working toward (and if you're not, start here and read this blog) the next step is learning how to recognize whether a home can actually support it. Here are some of the things I help my clients notice when we're touring homes together.

Nourishment & Kitchen Functionality

If cooking nourishing meals is part of your rhythm, your kitchen needs to work with you.

I'm not talking about granite counters or fancy appliances. I'm talking about space- counter space for chopping vegetables, storage for your sourdough starter or bulk bins of oats, a window over the sink that lets in morning light. Maybe a door that opens to a little patch of yard where you can grow tomatoes or step outside to clip fresh basil.

A kitchen that supports wellness doesn't have to be big or beautiful. It just needs to make feeding your family feel a little less like a chore and a little more like care.

Flow, Storage & Daily Rhythms

Clutter doesn't just take up space-it takes up energy.

When I walk through a home with a client, I'm watching for the small things that either ease the day or add to the chaos. Is there a place by the door for shoes and backpacks? Enough closets so you're not constantly shuffling your belongings? A spot where the kids can do homework without commandeering the kitchen table?

You can feel it when a home flows well. The mornings feel smoother. The evenings feel calmer. There's less friction between you and the life you're trying to live.

 Natural Light & Circadian Support

Our bodies are wired to follow the sun. Homes that honor that rhythm feel different, they feel alive!

When you're touring, notice how light moves through the space. Do the main living areas feel bright and open, or dim and heavy? Are the bedrooms positioned so you wake gently with the morning, or are they blasted with harsh afternoon sun?

If you're someone who struggles with energy or sleep, this matters more than you might think. We weren't meant to live in caves. If a houseplant can't thrive in your space, you might not either.

Spaces for Rest & Regulation

The world asks a lot of us. Your home should be where you get to come back down.

I look for the quiet corners, the places where you can retreat when you need to. A bedroom that actually feels restful. A chair by a window where you can sit with your coffee before the day starts. A back porch where you can step outside and just breathe.

These spaces don't need to be big, they just need to exist.

Connection to Nature & Outdoor Living

One of the greatest gifts of living in Central Oregon is how close we are to the natural world. Your home should extend that connection, not block it.

What do you see when you look out the windows- trees and sky, or a neighbor's television? Is there a deck or patio where you can eat dinner outside on a summer night? Can you step into the yard easily, or does it feel like an afterthought?

The homes that feel the most grounding are the ones that blur the line between indoors and out. The ones that remind you, every day, that you're part of something bigger.

Our homes shape us quietly. They affect how we start our mornings, how we move through our days, whether we end each evening feeling depleted or restored. The homes that truly support us aren't always the ones with the most upgrades or the biggest square footage. They're the ones that align with how we actually want to live.

If you're starting to see homes through this lens-and you want someone who understands what you're looking for, I'd love to walk through it with you.
